Dear Parents,
Happy Wednesday! I pray that you had a great day! We began our day with the rest of the school, the gym, practicing the song that we are singing in church (on September 18th).  The song is called “Creature Praise” and Mrs. Hurley taught us some sign language to do with the song.  So fun! Ask your firstie if they remember any of the sign language!  When we got back, we sat down in the back of the room and talked about confessing our sins to God and what that means.  We starting practicing a confession and absolution and then we prayed with other.  At the end, we blessed each other by making the sign of the cross on each other’s hands...have your child demonstrate for you!

Did you get your GONOODLE information?  This is only the second year that I have used this website, and my student’s last year just LOVED it.  It’s been kinda fun to watch the firsties this year be introduced to this, because some of them aren’t so sure about it all.  Ha.  The more that we do it, the more that they will enjoy all of the different things that we will do during our brain breaks.

Today we learned a little more about a superhero named “Superflex” and what he does to help us.  Superflex is a social thinking curriculum that teaches kids to think about different social expectations, their awareness of their own behavior, and how to modify their behaviors with Superflex strategies.  We are going to learn to be flexible and to go with the flow.  We are going to learn how to deal with different “Unthinkables” that may try to derail us when we work in class or in groups.  This is the first year that I have used this curriculum and I am SUPER excited to see how it works with this group of firsties.  I will be sending home some various parent letters to you so that you can be aware of what we learning in regards to this program.

We reviewed writing our capital letters today and also practiced our spacing! (Two fingered spacing) So far so good…..next week we will be introducing “Space Man”, who is a very important dude when it comes to writing.

We had an informational assembly today about the magazine sale and that info is coming home tomorrow (it’s a BIG packet, so it’ll be hard to miss!).
Have a great night!

Dear parents of official firsties!
We made it! Day one is under our belts!
Please make sure your firstie goes to bed nice and early tonight so that they will be ready to face a whole day in first grade, tomorrow.
Our class schedule went home today, did you find it?  It's for you to keep so you know what is going on during the day.
Their progress calendars should stay in their folders and will travel back and forth, (school to home) and  every day.
I will get you the September calendar by the end of this short week.  Please watch for it in your child's folder.
Thanks for a great first day and I can't wait to see all my firsties again tomorrow!

Here are a few pictures of some firsties and their "jitter glitter"

My dog, Josie, had to get in on the action too!

See you in the morning!

Dear Parents of ALMOST Firsties,
Thank you for signing up for home visits! I am enjoying meeting you face to face and getting to know you and your Firstie.
This is our classroom blog that will be updated every few days, so please take advantage of it and check out what your Firstie is doing in the classroom throughout the year.

Meet our class pet...this is Fiona Firstie

She is going to be a "fixture" in our classroom this year and I am looking forward to the interaction between her and the other Firsties. They will be able to meet her on Move-In Day on Sunday, August 28th, 11:30-2:00pm.  Please mark your calendar for this special day.  Firsties will have a chance to find their locker, find their desk, be introduced to their new classroom, and hopefully alleviate some first day jitters!

If you have any questions about anything please don't hesitate to ask!  I can be reached via Fast Direct or my school email mgallagher@trinitymonitor.org.

Enjoy the last days of summer!
Blessings,
Miss Gallagher
