Dear Parents,
This week has been bittersweet.  It started with our memorial for Abby on Tuesday.  The sculpture was revealed, the 2nd graders shared some sweet things that they remember about Abby, and we did a balloon release (the balloons were biodegradable so we did not hurt the environment).  As soon as we released the balloons, the kids all started cheering…and the adult in me was inwardly cringing.  I thought it should have been a silent and somber thing to do, so we could all really think about what we were doing, and why.  But it was pointed out to me, later on, that the time for somberness and quiet is done…..the kiddos had it right…..they were cheering and laughing and happy!  It was a time of rejoicing because Abby is in heaven!  Praise the Lord!  The memorial will be hung right on the school building, to the left of the front doors.  She will always be remembered!

Today we cleaned out our desks and lockers and the firsties brought EVERYTHING home.  Because the whole school is getting a new literacy curriculum, all of the kiddos were able to bring home their hard-covered reading books.  The firsties have 6 hard-covered books in our series and I told them that they could pick out what books they wanted to bring them home.  Each and every first grader chose ALL 6 books…..!!!!  I kept thinking to myself…..I am not sure they are completely understanding how heavy all of those books will be when they try to take them all home.  (The end of the day was quite interesting, for that very reason….LOL!)

Field Day, it was my first at Trinity, was awesome!  We started the afternoon with a picnic lunch at the pavilion (hot dogs, chips, watermelon, juice and/or water).  Then the whole school was split into teams and each team wore a different colored bandana to signify what team they were a part of.  There were 10 different stations and each team needed to complete 9 out of the 10.  Whichever team completed their chosen 9 first, won!  We actually finished with a little time to spare, so the winning team played tug-of-rope against the teachers (guess who won?) and then the leaders of each team competed against the teachers on the “skis” activity (guess who won that one too??).  Some of the kids played a little kickball and we wrapped it all up with each child receiving a participation ribbon and Slurpees!  The weather could not have been more perfect and a great time was had by all!  PTO did a fabulous job and I really appreciate all of their hard work!

Tomorrow is our last day…..even though this year has flown by, I am not sure I am ready to say good-bye to my little firsties!
See you tomorrow!
Blessings!
