Dear Parents,
Happy Thursday! The seeds are planted!   Hooray!  Many, many thanks to Wyatt’s grandparents that were able to come help us plant and teach us some things about gardening! We are ALL learning and I am grateful to be learning too! Now we just need some rain…..like a good, hard, rain to saturate the ground.  I don’t want to ruin anyone’s long weekend, but please pray for some rain.

In Math we have been learning about geometry….plane figures (which are flat shapes; squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, etc….) and solid figures (which are figures that have dimension; cubes, spheres, cones, pyramids, etc…).  Quiz your firstie about these real life shapes and solid figures that are all around….especially practice the vocabulary (sphere is a hard one for first graders…it usually comes out “spear”).
Here are a few pictures of their creations with some plane shapes….can you guess what they are?

A "lantern"

A "dog"

"The sun setting behind the mountains"

This week was our last week for spelling and so we practiced writing our words outside….with sidewalk chalk!  It was messy fun!

A few weeks ago, I was asked, “Miss Gallagher, are you going to be bringing in your birthday treat?  Because, you know, your birthday is in June, but we won’t be here for it….” LOL.  So yesterday, I did.  Did your firstie tell you about what I brought in?  It was kind of a fun and different treat!  Each student made a “candy” (pretzels, gummy life savers, and fruit loops) necklace that they could eat throughout the day. However,  most didn’t last more than an hour….ha!
These last few weeks have been great!
 Enjoy your long weekend!
Love, Miss Gallagher

Dear Parents,
Last week was a pretty busy week! From our “Safety Day” to “Freaky Friday”, I was able to capture some good pictures of the firsties!
“Safety Day” was on Wednesday and since I was new to Trinity, I didn’t quite know what to expect….and I have to say….I was SO impressed!!!  The events began after lunch/recess and the firsties first watched a video and learned a little more about bicycle safety.  Then we headed outside and waited for the medical helicopter.  It circled around the school one time and then landed.  The kids thought that was SO COOL!!!  We were able to go and meet the medical team that travels on the helicopter and the pilot, and they talked to us about what they do.  Then each of the kids were able to sit in the helicopter and got a free pair of sunglasses!  The firsties and I headed back into the school building and each child was fitted for a free bicycle helmet and also received a Frisbee and some chapstick  (I even got a free helmet!).  What a blessing that the free items were (and are!)!

Friday was the 13th, and so we “celebrated” by wearing crazy socks and/or crazy shoes.  I wore my clogging shoes (which are kind of like tap shoes) and showed the kiddos how to dance (well, I taught them a step….) and you could certainly hear me coming ALL DAY (my fellow teachers LOVED it).  Ha.

The community garden is coming together!  Mrs. Beth Schwab (a 2nd grade mom) wrote to me on Thursday to let me know that there was a grant available from the American Farm Bureau and we got it in just in time! It is for $500.00 and if it is awarded to us, could be used for supplies, equipment, and maybe even a fence. I am thankful that others are starting to excited about this project!
Because of the crazy weather that we have had over the weekend, I am going to push back our planting day a week.  Thanks to Mr. Anderson (and his father) who tilled the garden for us on Friday.

This coming week is our LAST FULL WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!  Can you believe it?  I am having a hard time with that myself…!  Please stay tuned for end of the year activities and things to know.
Blessings,
Miss Gallagher

Dear Parents,
I have been hearing “May the 4th (force) be with you!”  ALL DAY…..so I thought that I would share that with you too!  A few of the first grade boys wore their Star Wars shirts to commemorate this day….ha!
This week has been busy!  This morning, our 3rd and 4th grade friends presented our Chapel service and they did an OUTSTANDING JOB!!!  They spoke about what a truth is and what THE truth of God is.  Mrs. Parsons reminded us that we are going to come into contact with people in our lives that don’t believe in God, and how sharing the truth of what God has done for us all, is so very important.  The handbell choir also performed this morning, during Chapel, and they did a great job too!
Christian is listening the handbell choir very intently!
Last weekend I was able to go home and visit my parents.  It was the first time that I was able to see them since they got back from their big trip to Vietnam.  They brought me back a few things but they also brought the firsties a few presents too!  Each firstie was given a hand-painted bookmark and a piece of coconut candy, wrapped in rice paper.  I sent one home for you to try too….did you get it?  Interesting huh?

Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher!

In Social Studies we have been learning about jobs.  What it means to have a job and what we would like to be when we grow up.  Below are the responses of most of the firsties.  See if you can find your child's dream job!
(An Artist)
(I want to work at the mall. )
(I would like to sell stuff and earn money. )
(I want to play hockey. )
(I want to work at the Library. )
(I want to be a fire fighter.)
(I want to be a vet. )
(A police officer.)
(A spy and a ninja and work for people. )

Blessings on the rest of your week!
Standing on the Promises and Truths of God,
Miss Gallagher
